Same cards, different name

Japanese vs English: Abyss Eye and Pitch Black

If you have watched these rips and then gone looking for the set in a US store, this is the one you want. Abyss Eye is the Japanese printing behind English Pitch Black.

The Pitch Black set symbolThat is the symbol on an English Pitch Black card, printed at the bottom beside the collector number. It is not the mark on the Japanese cards in these rips: the two printings carry their own.

Released May 22, 2026, about two months ahead of the English Pitch Black. Same set, same chase lineup, Japanese print run.

Card for card

Abyss Eye vs Pitch Black by rarity

"Same set" is nearly true and worth checking rather than taking on trust. Here is every rarity in both printings, side by side. A rarity tagged Match holds the same number of cards in both.

3 of the 8 rarities hold exactly the same number of cards in both printings: 1 Mega Hyper Rare, 6 Special Illustration Rares and 18 Ultra Rares. English Pitch Black is 2 cards bigger, 120 against 118.

Both counts are the rarities on the two checklists, from TCGdex, read October 18, 2026. A rarity is only counted where TCGdex labels it, so this table appears on a guide only when both sides label every card. It says nothing about how often any of them turn up in a pack, because nobody outside The Pokemon Company knows that.

TCGdex publishes no card scans for Abyss Eye, so this page can name the cards worth hunting but cannot show them. What it can show, under the list, is the English set's own chase cards.

No prices here on purpose. Imported singles are priced in euro or yen by the databases that carry them at all, and a converted half-filled price table is worse than none. The English Pitch Black guide carries live USD values for the same cards.

Pokemon names come from the National Pokedex number on each card, so they are looked up rather than transliterated. 23 of the 24 Trainer and Energy cards are named the way TCGplayer's Japanese catalog files them, matched on the collector number. The other one, アイアンディフェンダー, keeps its Japanese name: where the catalog gave no single English name for a card, none is printed.

What we have pulled from Abyss Eye

2 cards out of our own packs. Every one of them is in a video you can watch.

There is no price list for this set's checklist, so the cards here are shown rather than valued. Where a pull carries a price, it is the figure written in our rip log, shown on that card's rip page.

Where this came from

  • Set details, checklist and rarities from TCGdex, read October 18, 2026.
  • Pokemon card names in English via the National Pokedex number, through PokeAPI.
  • Trainer and Energy names in English from TCGplayer's Japanese catalog, matched to this checklist on the collector number: 23 of the 24 on this page.
  • This is a fan page. Nothing here is sold by us and none of it is official.
