Check who is selling it before you pay
Not every price on walmart.com is Walmart's. Independent sellers list right beside Walmart's own stock and set their own price, usually a resale price well above what Walmart itself charges. It is easy to pay double without noticing.
Walmart Marketplace listings sit in the same results as Walmart's own stock, and on this search they dominated it. If the shelf is empty, ask
If you cannot see any, ask anyway. A lot of shops now keep trading cards behind the counter, in a locked case or in the back, and plenty do not put them on the sales floor at all. An empty peg is not the same as no stock, and people walk out of shops that had the thing every day of the week.
The question to ask is specific: do you have any Pokemon cards behind the counter. A staff member who has been asked ten times that morning will answer it in three seconds, and 'do you sell Pokemon cards' gets you pointed at an empty shelf.
